About us
In-service education in the seafaring and harbour sector
Kotka Maritime Centre (KMC) offers versatile in-service training in seafaring and harbour industry.
KMC is a training and simulator centre co-ordinated by South-Kymenlaakso Vocational College (Ekami) and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK)(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun). Our training correspond to the requirements of Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom)(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun) as well as to STCW in seafaring.
Customized training
In addition to open training, we organise various seafaring and harbour industry training according to the client’s needs. With applicable sections, these can be organised at the client’s own premises. For example, we can tailor occupational safety card and hot work licence training to suit the client’s working environment.
We also offer the possibility to carry out all the degree parts in piloting, PEC (Pilot Exemption Certificate), exemption degrees and the related training voyages. We attend to all seafaring stakeholders with expertise.
Modern training simulators
For seafaring we have navigational, engine room, GMDSS and oil collecting simulators(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun) at our disposal. In addition, we also have harbour crane and logistics simulators.
With cranes, one is able to train with rail mounted harbour cranes, hydraulic mobile harbour cranes, mobile harbour cranes (MHC), rubber tyred gantry (RTG) and ship’s cranes.
In Finland, we are the biggest in-service training provider in statutory harbour crane operations. Our partners are Mantsinen Group(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun) and simulator supplier Mevea Ltd(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun) among others. With the logistics simulators one is able to practise with driving licence type B vehicles, heavy machinery, wheel loader and excavator driving as well as operating a loading crane.
International cooperation
In addition to domestic operations, we also participate in international college co-operation.
KMC is a member of Education Finland(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun) through Ekami Consulting Ltd and executes education export to areas in East Africa and South Africa. For instance, in Tanzania, our partners are Maritime Institute (DMI)(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun) and Institute of Heavy Equipment & Technologies (IHET)(avautuu uuteen ikkunaan, siirryt toiseen palveluun) located in Dar es Salaam. As a subsidiary of Ekami, Ekami Consulting produces educational and development services for corporations and communities.
